Avis Europe adds no-show chargeadmin

AVIS Europe has announced the introduction of a new flat ‘no show’ fee, in which £40 will be levied on any customer who fails to pick up their booked vehicle.

The firm said the industry first move would bring Avis Europe “in line with other travel operators” such as hotels, cruises, tours and flights, adding that the move would help improve availability for customers as well as boosting fleet efficiency.

The fee will apply if customers don’t cancel before the allocated pick-up time, or don’t turn up within 24 hours. It will be progressively rolled out across the Avis Europe network this year, also meaning the firm will begin to collect forms of payment from customers, such as credit card details, at the time of booking.

A spokesman said the charge was “a fairer system for customers who diligently collect their cars, and simply echoes standard practices across the rest of the travel industry.” He insisted that the fee was “100% avoidable if customers think ahead.”
