UK visa rules to impact Aussies
Around 45,000 travellers heading to the UK from Australia will face finger scans and digital photographs as part of a tightening of British visa laws. Although most Australians travelling on holiday or for business do not require a visa, VisitBritain estimated that five per cent of the 900,000 people travelling from Australia to the UK will be affected.
Under the new laws for Australia – which are already in place with more than 100 Countries – visa applicants will be required to fill out a form online and make an appointment with the British Consulate to have their fingerscans and a photo taken. “These measures will give you better protection from identity theft and will combat abuse of the UK’s immigration system, VisitBritain said.
